Project Updates: Hugh Jackman Musical Film to Open Christmas 2016!

"After years of waiting, 20th Century Fox has finally set a date for the release of its upcoming movie musical The Greatest Showman on Earth. Leading the cast will be Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman, who currently stars in The River on Broadway.

The studio announced a 2016 Christmas Day opening — a strategy that seems to have worked well for Disney's latest musical venture, Into the Woods. The Greatest Showman on Earth follows American showman P.T. Barnum, founder of the circus that became the famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

The film is written by Oscar winner Bill Condon (Chicago, Side Show) and directed by Michael Gracey. It will feature songs by Tony-nominated composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (A Christmas Story), with additional song contributions by Bonnie McKee, Brian Lapin, and Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears. Condon replaced Sex and the City writer Jenny Bicks, who was originally announced as the project's screenwriter.

Studio heads are aiming to begin filming in New York by summer 2015."

Project Updates: Hugh Jackman Speaks Japanese For "Toyota" ReBorn Adverts!

Posted on 04 Jan 2015 by Admin

"When you get to be as big a company as Toyota, you can afford to go out and get A-list talent for your commercials. Over the last few years, the automaker’s created a series of ads starring boy band SMAP’s Takuya Kimura and film icon Beat Takeshi.

In the commercials, collectively known as ReBORN, Kimura and Takeshi play historical figures Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, reincarnated in modern Japan. The latest installment even has a special guest star as Hugh Jackman, Wolverine himself, shows up to help spread the word about Toyota’s newest eco-friendly cars.

Jackman actually appears in two Toyota ads. In the more straightforward of the two, he drives along the coast in a hybrid Crown sedan, sings an English version of J-pop vocal group Greeeen’s “Kiseki,” and really doesn’t do a whole lot else."

New Article: Hugh Jackman Rushes 'The River' Into Profit!

Posted on 27 Dec 2014 by Admin

"If anyone still had doubts about Hugh Jackman being a guarantee of box-office gold on Broadway, the announcement that his latest vehicle, The River, has recouped its $3.2 million investment in just a month should be proof enough.

Lead producer Sonia Friedman confirmed on Friday that the Jez Butterworth play, directed by Ian Rickson, has earned back its capitalization, meaning a healthy profit can be expected from the remainder of the run, which is s scheduled through Feb. 8.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement earlier in the week that the all-star revival of the Terrence McNally comedy It's Only a Play also recouped, getting this season off to a strong start for nonmusicals.

Read more 'The River': Theater Review

First produced at London's Royal Court Theatre in 2012, The River stars Jackman alongside Laura Donnelly and Cush Jumbo in an enigmatic drama about a trout fisherman in a remote cabin and his attempts on a moonless night to recapture the woman of his dreams.

The Broadway transfer began previews on Oct. 31 at the Circle in the Square and officially opened on Nov. 16. While reviews for the play itself were far more mixed than in London, critics generally had high praise for the production, and Jackman in particular.

The actor has previously been a major draw on Broadway in the Peter Allen bio-musical The Boy From Oz, for which he won a Tony Award for best actor; in the cop drama A Steady Rain, starring opposite Daniel Craig; and in his song-and-dance show Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway. The commercial success of The River demonstrates that Jackman's star power also translates to more challenging material.

The production has been playing to capacity audiences since the start of previews, with grosses of $5.5 million through Dec. 14. The fast recoupment is all the more remarkable in a theater that seats less than 700 people, and for a production with an affordable-ticket policy of offering a significant number of $35 and $95 seats at every performance.

Other producers on the show with Friedman are Stuart Thompson, Scott Rudin, Roger Berlind, Colin Callender, Scott Landis and Tulchin Bartner Productions."

New Appearance: Hugh Jackman Attended "Gypsy Of The Year" Broadway Cares 2014!

Posted on 13 Dec 2014 by Admin
Appearances icon

"The Lion King dancers and Hugh Jackman’s juggernaut fundraising skills proved a potent combination once again at the 26th annual Gypsy of the Year Competition, which raised an all-time record-breaking $5.2 million for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The Lion King won Best Presentation for the third year in a row with “Is the Writing on the Wall?,” in which the show’s limber dancers circled a man in a top hat who sketched a dove of peace in chalk on a black wall.

Jackman’s auctioning of his sweaty shirts after each performance of his play The River — a strategy he perfected in 2011 on his show Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway — helped loft that show’s total to $549,725 so far beyond the next-highest earner (It’s Only a Play, with $464,559) that the judges took The River out of the competition and gave Jackman a Special Award for extraordinary effort, as they did in 2011."
