WOLVERINE'S claws were out and he was ready to pounce during the filming of Hugh Jackman's latest blockbuster flick in western Sydney overnight.

The Daily Telegraph captured Jackman perched on top of a snow plough which raced through the wintry Japanese setting all while black ninjas attacked him from the village's rooftops.

Hugh and his shiny claws spent most of the night on the rickety snow plough's cabin while shooting at Sydney Olympic Park. Jackman hung off its side, jumped in the air and even dangled his legs over the edge during a break.

The fitness freak also bounced into some push ups on the vehicle and ate a snack without getting down.

But its dangerous work fighting off enemies who seemingly come from everywhere armed with samurai swords and hatchets. So extra measures were taken for the thrilling fight scene with Jackman having two safety cables attached to his side and linked up to cranes on the set.

This is the second week of filming at the Homebush carpark after previously shooting at Darling Harbour's Chinese Garden of Friendship.

The Wolverine is scheduled for release mid next year.

New Article: 5 Things Learned from 'Wolverine' online chat with Hugh Jackman!

Posted on 30 Oct 2012 by Admin

Film companies continue to push for new ways to reach out to audiences as they figure out when it's okay to start hyping a film. Summer 2013 movies are already starting to stake their claims and premiere imagery and set visit glimpses and posters. 20th Century Fox has a pretty big stake in "The Wolverine" working, and one of the first big moments for them came last week when Empire magazine revealed some of what James Mangold told them for their upcoming story. We wrote about that piece, which included a new image of Wolverine with his bone claws extended, last week, and it seemed like one more promising detail in what is shaping up as a very promising entry in the long-running "X-Men" franchise.

Today, James Mangold and Hugh Jackman spoke directly to fans around the world who tuned in for a live online chat that YouTube streamed from Sydney. It sounds like more and more journalists are arriving in Sydney today for further press events in the days ahead, and according to Mangold and Jackman, they're only a few weeks away from wrapping the film. I'm guessing there's got to be a trailer soon at this rate. They've described the film, and now it's time to let people know what it's going to look like in motion, what that world is that they're talking about. When Mangold references both "The Bicentennial Man" and "The Outlaw Josey Wales" as thematic touchstones, it's probably safe to assume this isn't just going to be another standard-issue superhero movie.

New Article: "THE WOLVERINE" To Be Set After ALL X-MEN Films!

Posted on 27 Oct 2012 by Admin
Projects icon

Hello everybody,

Previously believed to be a prequel to the X-Men trilogy, the director of The Wolverine, James Mangold himself has confirmed that the newest X-Men spin-off film actually takes place AFTER all of the previous films! Details after the jump...

Within the pages of the latest Empire Magazine, director James Mangold has confirmed that his upcoming film -- The Wolverine -- takes place after all of the previous X-Men films, including The Last Stand. As we saw in the final film, Logan was forced to murder Jean Grey because she could not control the Phoenix's power, Professor Xavier and Scott Summers were believed to be deceased, and the team had disbanded. With rumors of some of the original cast returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past, it remains to be seen whether or not this film will tie-in to that storyline. Below are comments from James Mangold himself on the timeline placement.

"Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him."

"That’s something that for me was very important, that I land in a very specific place in his timeline.I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that is nearly impossible to explore if you have a kind of league or team movie."

The 43-year-old actor also takes the cover of the magazine, which returns to newsstands on October 23.

“I passed out because I’d ripped out all the muscles attached to the lower part of my spine,” Hugh exclusively told JustJared.com about an injury he sustained on the cricket field when he was 13. “I spent about 10 days lying in bed. I had a bad back for a couple of years. I had to do a lot of physiotherapy for it. Physically, that catch changed a lot for me. I feel like I had a head start. New Article: Happy Birthday, Hugh Jackman! X-Men Star Turns 44!

Posted on 13 Oct 2012 by Admin
Hugh icon

We would sing "Happy Birthday" to Hugh Jackman, but he could probably belt it out better than us.

The X-Men star is celebrating his 44th birthday, and we're not sure whether he's going to do a little Broadway song and dance, kick some booty or pose shirtless (this idea is strongly supported).

Jackman has been keeping busy with multiple projects on his plate, like starring in Les Misérables and his upcoming flick Movie 43, a raunchy comedy alongside numerous celebs likeEmma Stone, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Anna Faris, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Naomi Watts, Terrence Howard, Richard Gere and Gerard Butler. Hey, we said it was a lot.

But the one that we're most anticipating is, of course, The Wolverine. And the latest photo from the movie featuring his vein-popping, sculpted bod only made us that much more excited.

Cheers to that!

New Article: Hugh Jackman is guest for Academy of Music Anniversary Concert!

Posted on 07 Oct 2012 by Admin
Hugh icon

Who is the special guest for the Academy of Music's 156th birthday this January? Is it:

(a) A highly respected song and dance man? (b) The sexiest man alive, 2008? Or (c) a wolverine?

In a gesture of considerably greater Hollywood dash than previous years, Academy leaders are importing all three in a single guest: Hugh Jackman.

The 43-year-old Australian actor and singer will perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra January 26th for the Academy of Music Anniversary Concert.

Jackman wasn't available for an interview, an orchestra spokeswoman said, and details of the program are not yet set.

However, she said: "We are told we can expect highlights from some of his award-winning performances, that he will dance, and that it will be an all-around theatrical performance, including some of his comedic wit. As always, we will leave much of this to be a surprise to the audience."

Conducting the program this year is new music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Jackman is known as Wolverine in the X-Men film series and for roles in Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing and The Prestige. He won a Tony Award for his role in The Boy from Oz. He was People magazine's "sexiest man alive" in 2008, and is involved in several charitable organizations.

Tickets, which go on sale Nov. 1, range in price from $200 for the concert alone, to $325-$1,850 for the entire Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball. Information: 215-893-1978, www.philorch.org.

New Candids: Hugh Hitting Up the Beach with "Wolverine" Buffed Bod!

Posted on 02 Oct 2012 by Admin
Appearances icon

He's been busy working out and filming scenes for his new film The Wolverine. And Hugh Jackman put his impressively sculpted physique on display while frollicking on Bondi Beach in Sydney on Friday with his 12-year-old son Oscar. The Prestige hunk, who turns 44 next month, did not look too far off from his famed mutant character Wolverine whilst walking on the sandy beach in his black swim trunks.

Showing off his athletic prowess, the toned 6ft 2inch performer was seen enjoying the warm weather as he took to the water with a wet-suited Oscar on a foam board. As the Les Miserables actor - also sporting his Wolverine chops - instructed his adopted son on the finer points of body boarding, Jackman's wife of 16 years, Deborah Lee Furness, stayed dry on the sand.

Earlier, the 56-year-old blonde took their seven-year-old daughter Ava to Eckersley's, an Australian arts and crafts supplies retailer, as she was seen carrying a small shopping bag from the chain. Covering up in an all black ensemble, she wore her hair up in a messy ponytail and hid her eyes behind a pair of nude coloured rimmed sunglasses as she carried little Ava's pink Crocs.

The barefoot girly girl wrapped herself in a white towel, and was seen wearing purple striped trousers. Jackman is known to transform his enviable body based on the role he takes on.

THE 12th annual Helpmann Awards were presented last night at the Sydney Opera House, with Hugh Jackman making a surprise appearance.

The Helpmann Awards, which recognises distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in Australia's live performing arts sectors, also serve as a reminder of the central place live performance takes in the lives of Australians young and old. What began in 2001 has grown into a globally recognised event.

Actor Simon Burke hosted the evening’s ceremony, which featured performances by the cast of Cirque du Soleil, The South Pacific Company, The Chorus Line Company, and artistes from The Australian Ballet. There was also a performance from the cast of A Long Way to the Top, featuring Marcia Hines, Jon Stevens, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson, anddf Ian Moss. Dan Sultan also performed a Tribute to Jimmy Little AO.

NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, congratulated the winners of this year’s awards.

“It has been a tremendous year for live entertainment in Australia, particularly NSW with our dream run of major musical premieres,” Mr Souris said.

“The extraordinary talent of our vibrant live performance industry continues to shine both on stage and behind the scenes. I am a fan of live performance and greatly admire the artistic brilliance and creativity celebrated through the Helpmann Awards held in our global city of Sydney, the live performance capital of Australia. The Helpmanns are the premier awards event for the live performance industry, highlighting the significant contribution the sector makes to our State and country."

Among just a few of this year’s winners were Cate Blanchett for Best Female Actor in a Play, Paul Capsis for Best Male Actor in a Play, Mitchell Butel for Best Male Actor in a Musical and Pamela Rabe for Best Female Actor in a Musical.

Project Updates: Jake Gyllenhaal Joined Hugh Nehind Bars for "Prisoners"!

Posted on 26 Sep 2012 by Admin
Projects icon

So has Jake Gyllenhaal found his Martin Scorsese? Whatever is happening between him and French Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve ("Incendies") seems to be working as after spening the summer with him shooting "An Enemy," he's going to take a role in the director's next film, which is now picking up speed.

Gyllenhaal is in talks to join Hugh Jackman and the recently announced Melissa Leo in "Prisoners." The Black List script penned by Aaron Guzikowski (“Contraband”), revolves around a small-town carpenter named Keller (Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against the big city detective assigned to the case. No word yet on Gyllenhaal's role, but apparently a script polish convinced him to enter talks.

Not to pore over the long and complicated history of this movie, but it has been developing for at least the last two or three years with a variety of talent going in and out over that time. But everything seems to be sticking at the moment, and it's pulling together some pretty great talent behind and in front of the cameras. Production on "Prisoners" is slated to begin in early 2013 or basically whenever Jackman is done with this duties for "The Wolverine" and "Les Miserables," with a release later the same year.
