New Article: "Les Miserables" Gets Standing Ovation in New York and Sydney!

Posted on 25 Nov 2012 by Admin

On Friday at Lincoln Center in New York, Tom Hooper, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne and Anne Hathaway debuted the most anticipated film of all time "Les Miserables" See a picture. "I finished it at 2AM yesterday and was already screening it today at Alice Tully Hall. I don’t think I’ve ever been more exhausted. But it’s been an extraordinary response. I think they broke into applause 14 or 15 times during the film. I remember the audience breaking into applause near the end of The King’s Speech but this is taking that to a new level. Towards the end of this film today this weird thing happened like a rustling kind of sound. For a minute I freaked out wondering what’s that odd sound on the soundtrack. I looked around and realized it’s the sound of people crying en masse. Rather extrarodinary for me,” Tom Hooper says. It was not a surpraise that "Les Miserables" got a standing ovation after the screenings in NYC as well.

And on the other side of the globe, in Sydney sensationally talented Hugh Jackman introduced the world's first-ever screening of 'Les Miserables' to an audience on Saturday, describing his lead role as "truly a labour of love".
Hugh admitted he first had a swim at Bondi Beach before attending the event at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, where he spoke passionately about his "once in a lifetime" role in the film.

Hugh said that Tom Hooper offered him the chance to see the movie about a month ago but Mr. Jackman said no, because he wanted to see it done. He was so nervous about his performance that he elected to see the musical for the first time on Friday night at a private screening attended by his wife Deborra-lee Furness, his father and stepmother, and a couple of close friends.
"I told them they were only allowed to say good things and that they weren't allowed to talk to me for a few minutes afterwards.''

Anne Hathaway said during a Q&A after the screening in New York that, although she had to lose weight for her role, she wished the media would focus instead on Jackman's weight loss. He apparently lost a full 30 pounds for the opening sequence. (But we must admit, that Hugh even went to the point of doing water dehydration before shooting that first scene of the movie.)
Russell Crowe also tweeted:"Hugh, spectacular, Anne Hathaway impossible, Eddie Redamayne,Amanda S, Sammy B,Helena B-C & Sacha B-C,Aaron,Daniel & company, amazing." And his another tweet was dedicated to Hugh: "I saw Les Miserables tonight. I am so grateful to be in that ensemble led by a remarkable performance by Hugh Jackman.Valjean is AWESOME."

There are and will be a plenty of reviews after screenings in Australia and USA, but all of them have a common thread: "It's an amazing work and musical is back".

New Article: "Les Miserables" First interviews with Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway!

Posted on 23 Nov 2012 by Admin

Les Miserables fans can be forgiven for not wanting to wait “One Day More.”

The big-screen musical is coming to theaters 25 years after the debut of the Tony-winning Broadway show, 150 years after Victor Hugo penned his epic novel, and 180 years after the Paris uprising that inspired the story.

It’s one of the most eagerly – and impatiently – awaited films of award season, and won’t begin screening for critics, guilds, and Academy voters until after Thanksgiving. Moviegoers will have to hold on even longer, until Dec. 25, for their chance.

But Entertainment Weekly’s Prize Fighter saw an exclusive rough-cut preview of the movie, and as a special pre-holiday treat we present the first major interviews with stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

Consider this an appetizer before the main course.

First, a little background: Jackman stars as Jean Valjean, a poor man once imprisoned for stealing bread who receives an unexpected gift that allows him to become a respected member of society – but only after turning fugitive and changing his identity.

Anne Hathaway is Fantine, a woman who works in the newly respectable Valjean’s factory until nattering co-workers force her out after discovering she has an out-of-wedlock child. From there, she has few options beyond selling her body to raise money for the little girl’s care.

Valjean fails to intercede on her behalf because he remains under the suspicion of a police officer, the merciless former prison guard Javert (Russell Crowe,) and fears rocking the boat might draw attention to his true identity.

Even before it screens, Les Miserables, directed by The King’s Speech Oscar-winner Tom Hooper, is already considered one of Oscar season’s power players, with lush costumes, make-up, production design, and cinematography, and complex editing to join together its live-sung performances (We’re promised there is no lip-synching in this film.)

Jackman is a contender for lead actor, and Hathaway is a front-runner for supporting actress, though the film has a host of potential nominees: Crowe as the imperious Javert, Amanda Seyfried as Fantine’s grown-daughter Cosette, and My Week With Marilyn’s Eddie Redmayne as the student revolutionary Marius.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter deliver comic relief as well as menace as the thieving innkeepers the Thenardiers, and newcomer Samantha Barks makes her film debut as Eponine, their surprisingly warm-hearted daughter.

New Article: Hugh Jackman Says Les Mis was pressurized!

Posted on 17 Nov 2012 by Admin

Hugh Jackman says the Les Misérables film set was a "cauldron of pressure and excitement".

The Australian actor plays ex-convict Jean Valjean in the big screen adaptation of the classic book by Victor Hugo. The musical movie culminates in the 1832 Paris uprising and the characters are battling hunger, ill health, broken hearts and past regrets. Hugh admits the gritty storyline made for a tense atmosphere while shooting, but he found the experience inspiring.

"The stakes were as high as they could possibly be every day," Hugh told Vogue. "And that sort of cauldron of expectation and pressure and excitement was exhilarating.

"[Valjean is] one of the great literary characters of all time; a real study of the human spirit under the worst adversity possible."
